In 2005, my life took an unexpected turn when my wife received a devastating diagnosis of a terminal illness. Given a prognosis of 4-5 years, I made the decision to become her full-time caregiver. At that time, I held the position of President and CEO at a National Investment Firm, overseeing a dedicated team of 700+ Financial Advisors based in Omaha, NE.
In 2006, realizing the importance of focusing entirely on my wife’s well-being, I made the choice to retire. We relocated to beautiful San Diego, where we could embrace the wonderful weather and find solace in a new environment.
In 2009, I made the decision to purchase a beautiful home in the Aviara section of Carlsbad. Instead of paying cash, the mortgage company introduced me to an innovative financial product known “Reverse for Purchase”. After careful consideration and analyzing the numbers, it became clear that making a 40% down payment would allow me to forego mortgage payments for as long as I resided in the home. This strategy allowed me to keep the remaining 60% of the funds actively working for me in the market, while solely being responsible for Real Estate Taxes and Homeowners insurance.
Following the loss of my wife, a new chapter in my life began. Leveraging my extensive 30+ years of experience in Financial Planning, I embarked on a new career path. I collaborated with Financial Advisors, Insurance Agents, and CPAs to enhance their clients’ retirement plans by incorporating Reverse Mortgage products. It is important to note that I have no conflicts of interest, as I do not engage in the sale of real estate or financial products, nor do I enter any planning engagements. I maintain my professional standing with up-to-date CFP CE requirements, ensuring that I provide the highest level of expertise and service.
I am excited to announce that I now own my own company, “Retirement in Reverse”. Not only do I get to meet wonderful people, but I get to provide objective, competent advice about Reverse Mortgages. In addition, after six years of serving on the Executive Board of Serving Seniors, I continue to provide valuable philanthropic advice to the organization. I am also a co-founder of Senior Life Source Inc., a 501(c)(3) company, where our mission is to empower employees of large companies with essential education on aging. I am also honored to be a member of the North County Estate Planning Council.
My name is Kinga, and I’m originally from Poland. I moved to the United States in 2004 and became a Real Estate Agent in 2007. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of helping clients find their dream homes, investment properties, and guiding them as they sell homes full of beautiful memories to begin new chapters. Along the way, I’ve developed a deep passion for working with older adults.
In 2023, as the market began to shift, I realized that many seniors would need guidance and support in preparing for the next stage of their lives. It became clear to me that my role needed to expand to include not just real estate services, but solutions to help seniors age in place, find a retirement community, or downsize/rightsizing their homes. I committed myself to an extensive course that allowed me to build a system to assist families in making these important decisions.
I’m proud to hold the Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES®) and Certified Senior Housing Professional (CSHP®) designations, demonstrating my commitment to understanding the unique needs of seniors and their families. As a Senior Advisor, I’m now able to offer more specialized services to assist the mature market and our cherished long-time homeowners.
Along the way, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people and organizations that focus on helping seniors navigate their choices. One such person was Ted Lange, CFP from Retirement In Reverse. Our shared vision for helping others led us to form a partnership, and I’m now excited to announce that I have obtained my Mortgage Loan Originator license, with a specific focus on Reverse Mortgages. This product not only helps improve the quality of life during retirement but also prepares seniors for unexpected expenses and future needs.

Our mortgage payment was a big chunk of our budget each month but we wanted to find ways to reduce our expenses. We hear of reverse mortgages but were skeptical. So when our financial advisor suggested we talk to Ted Lange when were impressed. He addressed our concerns, led us through the process, and went to work for us. In fact, several years later Ted contacted us to refinance our loan giving us additional funds. It is great having Ted Lange, as a true professional looking out for you. We could not be happier with the results!
